HabaCrete vivarium mortar is a great solution to many of the design and construction issues related to building naturalistic vivariums. With the strength and easy of use HabaCrete vivarium mortar offers you can now sculpt your own hardscape, bond rocks and wood together. Since it’s non-toxic when dry, easily colored and has a quick drying time, your vivarium and aquarium projects will be more enjoyable to work on.
If you add aggregate materials pay close attention to your mix ratio. Never mix more then 30% aggregate material to the quick drying vivarium mortar by volume. To do so will bring the strength and workability down in standards.
HabaCrete vivarium mortar will flash very rapidly if used in warm conditions or with hot water. Best work time is with cool, not cold, water with ambient temperature of 70-80. Colder or Hotter times will effect the set time and either slow it down or speed it up respectively.
Mixing instructions for vivarium mortar : 4:1 for peanut butter thickness, 3:1 for pudding thickness. You might want thicker if you setting rocks or wood. Thinner is great is your coating your tree fern panel or other vertical items and want to sculpt them.
Tools you may need: Plastic mixing bucket, spatula or trowel, clean work area, gloves, dust mask and a role of paper towels.
If you plan to coat foam with the vivarium mortar use a thin layer so that you have a porous substrate to bond to. Thicker peanut butter constancy vivarium mortar might slip off your work. If you are hoping to make burrows or such, email us about your specific species as there are some tricks that apply to different toads, snakes lizards and geckos that will help.
If you want to use HabaCrete vivarium mortar to hold rocks or wood items together to just create rockwork with the mortar around wood, pre-soak the items this helps them to bond better with the mortar and lower the risk of the wood expanding later and cracking your hard work.
